We invite you to join us to go ‘Behind the Seams’ at the world’s largest costume house – Angels Costumes. A one-of-a-kind experience, this tour showcases their extensive costume collection, which spans 8 miles worth of rails, and over 1 million items.
Angel’s Costumes
On the tour, you’ll be guided around all of Angels Costumes departments including Tailoring, Ladies Making, Alterations, Uniform, Badge Room and Warehouse. You’ll hear first-hand accounts of working on the biggest productions such as Shakespeare in Love, The Lady in the Van, Downton Abbey, Wicked and Game of Thrones. You’ll also see clothes made or recreated for Benedict Cumberbatch, Judi Dench, Fred Astaire, Johnny Depp, Cate Blanchett and many more.
Angels has been providing costumes for stage and screen since 1840, and is the name sewn into thousands of costumes for television, theatre and film productions, including thirty-six costume Oscar®-winning movies. ‘Behind the Seams’ gives exclusive access to what really goes on at Angels, and you can hear the story of the biggest dressing-up box in the world.
This is a unique insight into 175 years of the entertainment industry in London, and the evolution of a family business now into its seventh generation.
Now you too can step behind the dressing room door and see how the magic unfolds……
The Hindu Temple
We shall also be visiting the beautiful Hindu Temple in Neasden – the Shri Swaminarayan Mandir. This is the first traditional Hindu Mandir in Europe and every one of the 26,300 individually carved pieces that make up the temple in its entirety were carved in India and shipped to London. All of these pieces were fitted together in just three years between 1992 and 1995. Both the inside and outside of this building are absolutely stunning with highly fashioned pillars, domes, columns, carpets and ceilings. We shall be there for a ceremony in the morning.
Lunch
A two-course lunch with tea or coffee is included at the Grims Dyke Hotel, the former home of Sir William Gilbert one half of the famous stage partnership, Gilbert and Sullivan. We shall be asking for your menu choices in advance for this lunch, so we’ve added the menu choices below for you.
