About this excursion

£235 per person

Join us for a two day break this winter at the unmissable Christmas Festival of LomgleatLight at Longleat as the park is transformed into a glowing winter wonderland. It’s Europe’s largest ever display of giant Chinese lanterns which are beautiful by day but incredible after dark.

We shall visit Longleat House beautifully dressed for Christmas. The House is widely regarded as one of the best examples of high Elizabethan architecture in Britain and one of the most beautiful stately homes open to the public, completed by 1580. Today it is home to the 7th Marquess of Bath. The House is set within 900 acres of magnificent “Capability Brown” landscaped parkland and it contains many treasures; paintings by Tintoretto and Wootton, exquisite Flemish tapestries, fine French furniture and elaborate painted ceilings.

A tour of the Longleat Safari Park is also included. This park opened in 19Lion of Longleat66 causing a revolution in the world of zoological collections by becoming the first location outside Africa to open a drive-through Safari Park. Despite the understandable concern of the local people with regard to the introduction of lions to Wiltshire, the Safari Park concept has become a huge success and some 40 years later this unique way of showing animals in their natural surroundings still delights and amazes hundreds of thousands of visitors to Longleat each year.

At 16.00hrs the lights come on as the spectacular Christmas Festival of Light begins. The display will cover more than 30 acres and feature a variety of traditional Chinese designs including dragons and pagodas alongside gLights 1iant recreations of some of Longleat Safari Park’s famous animals. Filled with thousands of LED lights and handmade on location by a team of highly-skilled craftsmen, you can enter a magical world of Chinese myths and legends with incredibly-detailed individual designs. They reach well beyond the height of a two-storey house. It is a real chance to see something different. You must also find the giant Singing Christmas Tree with hundreds of dazzling lights dancing in time to much-loved festive tunes, plus other great Adventure Park attractions.

We shall be staying in the very comfortable 4* Best Western Swan Hotel in Wells on a half board basis. A welcome glass of Bucks Fizz will be served on our arrival and a three course dinner with tea or coffee will be provided with a choice of food. Porterage of your cases in and out of the hotel is also included.

There will be time after breakfast to enjoy some time in the small city of Wells, perhaps visit the Cathedral and we shall then make our way home, stopping in the beautiful city of Bath, which offers a truly festive experience each year when it transforms into a wonderful Christmas shopping experience with over 170 chalets packed with lovely and unusual Christmas gifts. Bath has plenty to offer including stunning architecture, top Swan in Wellsrestaurants and the UK’s only natural thermal spa.

The price for this event includes luxury coach transport, your overnight half-board stay in the 4* Swan Hotel in Wells, entrance ticket for Longleat for the Christmas Festival of Light show, the house and safari park and main square attractions.
