About this excursion

£415 per person

Day 1 – Chavenage House

We depart from Milton Keynes and other local pick up points suitable for our guests and make our wayPoldark to Chavenage House. This will be a very entertaining visit. You can enjoy a private guided tour of this fascinating house owned by the Lowsley-Williams family, with history dating back to Elizabeth 1. The family will look after us throughout our visit, even providing a delicious freshly cooked two-course lunch with tea or coffee.

The historical interest is centred upon the English Civil War but the house is frequently used for filming and you may recognise Chavenage from many television and film productions such as ‘Grace and Favour’, ‘Hercule Poirot’, ‘House of Elliot’, ‘Cider with Rosie’ and ‘Emma’. Chavenage also featured as Candleford Manor and it was seen as Trenwith House in the hugely popular ‘Poldark’ series.

Day 2 – Bath Christmas MarketBath Xmas Mkt

Voted the best Christmas Market outside London last year, Bath’s yuletide market has taken on a worldwide reputation over the last 19 years and with 200 stalls you can see why. The wooden chalets that line up outside the stunning Bath Abbey, sell everything from festive foods and bespoke jewellery to handmade Christmas decorations and cosy knitwear. The surrounding streets are filled with a constant stream of atmospheric music and carols while the smell of winter spices and mulled wine makes this the perfect winter paradise.

Day 3 – Lacock Abbey & Fox Talbot Museum

Lacock Abbey is in the village of Lacock, Wiltshire.  The Abbey is now the property of the National Trust, to which itLacock Abbey was given in 1944 by Matilda Gilchrist-Clark, who had inherited the estate from her uncle Charles Henry Fox Talbot in 1916. The abbey is a Grade I listed building, having been so designated on 20 December 1960.

Some interior sequences in Harry Potter films were shot at Lacock, including the cloister walk.

The Fox Talbot Museum forms part of the ground floor. It celebrates the life of William Henry Fox Talbot, and his contributions to photography, and includes exhibits on the man himself, his mousetrap camera (so-called by his wife because he scattered the little wooden boxes round the house. The Fenton Collection, an historic photographic collection, was transferred to the museum from the British Film Institute in 2017.
