Newmarket Experience with Optional Fine Dining
Following our successful and enjoyable visit to Newmarket in 2015 we are returning, not for racing, but for a behind the scenes view of this prestigious Home of Horse Racing. We start with the Gallops used daily by some 3000 horses – what a glorious sight! We move on to the National Stud where we visit the Foaling Unit, Stallion Unit and nursery paddocks where, at the time we are going, you should see newborn foals. We are offering an optional lunch in the prestigious Jockey Club Rooms before we complete our day with a visit to the new National Heritage Centre for Horseracing and Sporting Art.

We start our day with The Gallops. These Newmarket Training Grounds include an array of facilitie
s for training thoroughbred racehorses, on turf and artificial surfaces, unequalled anywhere in the world. Comprising of 2,500 acres, the Training Grounds include 50 miles of turf gallops and over 14 miles of artificial tracks. They are used on a daily basis by over 3,000 horses in the care of over 80 trainers.
The Training Grounds, historically known as Newmarket Heath, has been home to many of racings most famous and colourful characters- horse and human alike- over the centuries. Whilst being extremely proud of its history, Jockey Club Estates has invested millions of pounds in the Training Grounds and their facilities to ensure that they remain an international centre of excellence for Thoroughbred training.
National Stud Most tours include visits to the Foaling Unit and nursery paddocks. At the tim
e we are visiting you should be able to see newborn foals.
You also get to see their superb Stallion Unit, with the opportunity to see the stallions in their paddocks or going about their daily work, as well as visiting various yards and paddocks where you can watch the mares and foals grazing and enjoying the sunshine.
Optional Lunch in the Jockey Club Rooms Many of us visited these beautiful Jockey Club
Rooms in 2015 and were all impressed by the comfort and décor. You will have an opportunity to visit these prestigious Rooms for a welcoming glass of bubbly followed by a leisurely three course lunch with tea and coffee in one of their beautifully furnished rooms adorned with famous paintings and racing memorabilia. The Jockey Club Rooms is the members’ only club at the heart of British horseracing history. The rich and famous racing gentry have built and developed this unique and elegant social club over the last four centuries. Still a thriving members’ club, today the unique collection of art and racing memorabilia offers a window to racing’s enthralling history. NB For those who do not wish to take this option for lunch, there are several restaurants and eating places in Newmarket including one in the Racing Museum.
We complete our day with a visit to The Museum. The National Horseracing Museum currently (2015) occupies part of the buildings that were known as the Subscription Rooms which were a focal point of Newmarket and consequently are steeped in history. In 2016 the National Horseracing Museum is moving to Palace House, the location of the new National Heritage Centre for Horseracing and Sporting Art. The centre will include a new museum that celebrates the history and science of horseracing, a national gallery of British sporting art and thoroughbred horses. They plan to open their doors to the public in the first half of 2016. We are therefore very hopeful it will be ready for our visit.
The cost for this day includes luxury coach transport, a experienced guide for tours of the Gallops and National Stud and entry fees to the National Horseracing Museum and, of course, treats + the optional lunch, if required.
