Tower of London and Superbloom

2022 will see HM The Queen become the first monarch in British history to celebrate her Platinum Jubilee. Historic Royal Palaces are marking this historic milestone with a major new display in the moat at the The Tower of London. Previously the setting for the ceramic poppies to mark the centenary of the First World War, the moat will be transformed this year into a stunning and colourful natural landscape filled with vibrant flowers. To make the most of this unique experience join us for a very special day at the Tower of London in the company of a top notch Blue Badge Tour Guide. Lunch is included.

Tower of London and Superbloom

About this excursion

£ 119 per person

Please note it has been necessary to change the date of this event as, sadly the flowers in the Tower Moat are not growing as quickly as anticipated.  The Tower expect ‘full bloom’ towards the end of June and we have now secured a new booking on 13th July.   All other parts of the trip are re-booked for this new date.

Ravenmaster

We’ll be leaving a little later than usual for this trip and we’ll be enjoying lunch in north London before we visit the Tower and meet our guide.  This means we shall not leave London until after 6.00pm and we’ll miss the worst of the rush hour traffic on both journeys.

In the company of a very experienced Blue Badge Guide you’ll hear the story of the Tower of London from William the Conqueror to the last state prisoner Rudolf Hess.  You’ll see the Yeoman Warders, known as Beefeaters – the ceremonial guardians of the Tower and the legendary ravens who live there.

You’ll see the Crown Jewels, used in every coronation and you’ll ponder the horror of arriving at Traitor’s Gate, hear stories of the Bloody Tower, discover the ‘privilege’ of a Tower execution and contemplate some ghosts and come away with a real understanding of 1000 years of the Tower of London as a palace, prison, fortress and place of execution. Crown Jewels

Since the 13th century when Henry III decided to expand the Tower defences, the moat has been used to keep people out.  Now for the first time visitors will be able to go into the moat (with easy ramped access) and enjoy views of the Tower from within.  The floral displays will mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee by celebrating the transformative power of nature and green spaces – something we’ve all come to appreciate after the last couple of years.

There’ll be time for a cup of tea locally before we journey home.

The cost of this event includes your journey in a very comfortable coach, a two course lunch with wine at Kennedy’s delicious Fish and Chip Shop, entrance to the Tower of London, your tour with an experienced Blue Badge Guide and, of course, treats.

NEWS FROM THE TOWER REGARDING  ‘SUPERBLOOM’:

The Tower of London’s Superbloom is the beautiful new naturalistic landscape of the historic moat, marking the Platinum Jubilee year of Her Majesty the Queen.

Designed to be a haven for pollinating insects and seed-eating birds in the heart of the City of London, the display will transform the moat into an evolving sea of colours and scents over the course of the summer.

On arrival, visitors can slide into the famous moat on our Superbloom slide! Or for a more conventional entry, there is a fully accessible visitor entrance just off the Causeway taking you into the weaving pathways. The Superbloom slide, repurposed from an original commissioned by the National Trust for Cliveden House, will have planters running alongside to compliment the Superbloom flowers. Slide availability is subject to weather conditions and demand.

Visitors continue through the Superbloom display along winding willow-lined paths set to a specially commissioned soundscape with sculptural elements along the way including The Nest - a woven wicker sculpture – helping you feel at home among the bees and butterflies.

It promises to be a feast for the senses.
